Career

As a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1998, Ward broke through the right field wall at Three Rivers Stadium while chasing a fly ball. The spectacular catch that resulted was a staple of TV highlight shows for the rest of the year. He was also drafted into the New York Yankees during the 18th round of the 1986 Amateur Draft. He then signed June 11, 1986.[1]

Along with Rick Crawford, John Mitchell, and Joe Whitt, Ward was inducted into the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.[1] In 2007, he managed a Pirates' minor league affiliate, the State College Spikes, in the New York-Penn League.[1]

As of 2011, Ward is the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks Double-A affiliate team, the Mobile BayBears. Ward coached the Baybears to win the 2011 Southern League Championship.
